Rounders - KIT AND EQUIPMENT

"How few our real wants, and how vast our imaginary ones! …”

Just as in baseball, cricket and other fast-moving bat and ball games, it's important to have the right kit and equipment to play the game of Rounders safely and without risking injury.

The Rounders Field

The field: The best place to play Rounders is on a well-mown field. As above, the Rounders pitch should be marked out as a pentagon.

The Bat:  The bat is made of wood and is normally 12” to 20” long.  A round, tapered bat is usually the preferred option, though a flat-sided bat is also in vogue.  The bats have a knob at the bottom end of the handle end so that it does not slip from the batter's grip. You can use a wooden bat or an aluminium one, the choice is yours!

The Ball:  The ball has a leather outer cover and inside is stuffed with a softer material such as wool.  It weighs around 5½ to 7 ounces and is 9 to 9½” in circumference.

Other items of kit:

In Tournaments, national teams usually sport their own chosen colors with insignia embossed or inscribed.

Umpires are also issued with suitable clothing and kit.
